Help on Ligeti "Musica Ricercata"
on: August 31, 2005, 07:01:00 PM
I need help on Musica Ricercata No.2. I'm having trouble with the 64th notes on the same key. Any suggestions?

I don't have this score from Ligeti, but if its the same note with one hand perhaps 1323 1323 etc keeping a suspended hand, nothing heavy. That is what I use for Ravels Scarbo repeated D# in the opening.

Musica Ricercata is awesome, you should keep at it and post some of the movements when you're done with them in the Listening Room. My piano teacher has played MR.

#2 says "the repetition of notes as dense as possible," which really means as dense as you can possibly play it. Don't try to go too fast, just make sure what you're playing is even. I've never tried 1-3-2-3, I've been using 4-3-2-1. Either way, make sure you're pulling your fingers back instead of up. Also make sure your wrist is moving so you're not just poking with your fingers. It'll all take practice, but let us know if anything works out for you.
