Pieces for violin and Piano
on: August 31, 2005, 07:14:23 PM
I'm for the first time ever, going to play with another instrumentalist (if not guitar and other electric instruments count).

What pieces would be some good pieces? I would love play a movement from any Beethoven sonata but I guess that would be for too difficult for me.

My skills? Well the most difficult piece I know is Chopins Etude Op 25 no 5
So what piece would be within my reach?

Maybe you should start with some Mozart.  the e minor sonata is not hard and yet it's fantastic.

Dvorak's Sonatin for violin and piano in G major, don't remember the Opus number (100 something, I think). Quite easy and lovely piece.

Also the 2nd and 3rd movements of Bo Linde´s Sonatin for violin and piano. Great melodic and rhythmic music. The surrounding two movements are a bit trickier.

I'm not sure about its level, but my favorite violin-piano sonata is Cesar Franck's. Lots of both dramatic as placid and lyrics moments.

Okay, I know it's not comparable to a sonata for violin and piano, but I play Mozart's violin concerto in G major with a violinist. It's not that hard and at the same time a lot of fun.

Thanks for all the replys. I thought I had replyed in this thread but I don't see my post in it.  :-\

Thanks for all your tips. The winner is... Dvorak Sonatina in G major. I can't say I like this piece but I had to pick it (long story)

and I'll also be playing Messiaens Theme and Variation with another violinist. (A better one) :)
