Best recording of Chopin's Prelude Opus 28 No. 24
on: September 01, 2005, 04:44:49 AM
The D minor is my favorite of the entire set, but I can't seem to find a recording that catches all the fire that's printed in the score. The only Dm that I've heard that I thought did it justice was a live performance by Ann Schein. Pogorelich's recording almost comes close, but it still seems to be missing something. I also heard Read Gainsford perform the 24 preludes live, and his Dm came pretty close too, but it was somewhat lacking in musicianship. Anyone know of a particularly wonderful recording of this prelude?

 Bolet, from Carnegie Hall.

I second Bolet's recording from Carnegie Hall.  The only thing is, I don't think that this recording availabe any more, although you might try used at Amazon.  It would be worth it.  His recital includes all of the Chopin preludes, which in my humble opinion is best recording of them.  He also played a moving rendition of the Bach/Busoni Chaconne in D minor.  Plus much more.
