I use an Epsom c44 as i have not got a massive amount of space.

Not very quick, that is the downside.

Cheap if i remember.

i have an hp photosmart 7550.  it's probably not as compact as some, but it's compact to me.  like you say, you don't need color for sheet music, but i've been surprised at the quality of pics that print out, too, if you decide you want to sometime.

For black-and-white text and sheet music, nothing beats the output of a laser printer (for home printers, that is). I've always loved the crisp, clean blacks. It's almost like having your own printing press. Trouble is, I don't know if they're as widely available anymore as they used to be.

I just got a Canon Pixma iP5000 and it's great.  It does automatic double sided printing too so you can save on paper and is really usefull for page turns.

If you get an inkjet, remember the price of the printer is nothing compared to what you will pay for ink.  So examine the prices of ink cartridges before you buy your printer.  Also check if 3rd party refills are available for your cartridge.  A couple more dollars for a better quality printer with an efficient ink system will cost far less than a really cheap printer with extreemly expensive ink cartridges.

My top picks for printers are Canon or HP.  I do not recomend Lexmark, as they tend to have the most pricy ink of all printer companies.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

I'm not an expert on this, but I have a laser printer.  It is much much faster than any of the ink printers I've ever seen or used.  So I would recommend definitely getting a laser printer for that reason.  It works as fast as a copier where an inkjet takes about 30 seconds per page.
