gas prices
on: September 02, 2005, 04:28:06 PM
what do you pay for gas?

gas for me went up 50 cents yesterday to 3.15. There is an investigation into price gouging, but I don't know really.

i believe there was a price hike because of hurricane katrina.

maybe that's not where you are though.

You know Hugo Chavez offered to Bush administration to give free gasoline to Americans living below the poverty line?  And guess what -- Bush refused.  Why?  Because his pals are getting rich with these prices.

And another disgusting thing -- Congress can approve billions of dollars for pet highway projects that shovel money into their own pockets, but they couldn't put $105 million down to bolster levees and improve New Orleans' hurricane resistance last year?  Which would have saved many lives and damages.

Don't forget that's20 cents per litre...in other words, about 80 cents/ gallon...

But I have seen an explanation that makes some sense...when a gas station's tank is empty, obviously they must buy more gasoline to refill it...where does the money come from to refill? From the money they took in today...so they have to raise it today so they can buy more tomorrow. Still bugs me, though!

And yes, Alberta has lots of oil of its own...which will be wanted in the US, so the price will go up...the laws of supply and demand.

90% of the Gulf Coast oil production is stopped or slowed right now. That causes huge price increases.

Please leave inflammatory political statements out of as many threads as you can.  Start an anti-Bush thread if you want to....that way I'll know what it's about and avoid it.  But I just don't like these random statements.

PS: we all know that the dems are gonna win the next election, esp. after the lack of response to katrina....just wait till us GOPers get to make a few comments.... 8)

They will, and then they'll add that cost to the subscription price of tree huggers monthly :)

in china they use bicycles a lot more (at least they used to).  hey, we could have those push-carts.  that would be fun.  (unsubscribes to tree-huggers, and gets a chauffer push-cart guy).

if I were to start using a bicycle I would become Lance Armstrong. It is a 45 min. drive to school and 30 min. drive to church. Long trips.

Yeah, why have a cab when you can have a sweaty chinese guy pulling you in a bumpy rickshaw at a smokin 5 km an hour!  Yeah, if we want to get to that mall, we'd better set up camp and tackle the journey at the crack o dawn tomorrow ;)

make way hackney gas guzzlers.  hey, chauffer rickshaw, watchout for that pothole.  (i think my teeth are loose).

ps  you'd never make it to the mall here, in one of those.  there's a reason so many deer are run over here.
