Classical repertoire pianist you like the most
on: September 03, 2005, 04:11:03 AM
You have to vote 3 pianists. And you can change your mind and modify it.

By "classical repertoire" I mean any musical period: Baroque, classical, romantic, 20th century...

CAUTION: Moiseiwitschīs twice and one of them with bad spelling. Vote for Moiseiwitsch and not MoiEsewitsch. If you've voted the other, correct it with "Remove vote".

Here you go. Legato, full singing tone, expression, musical ideas, sensitivity.
Light fast playing pianists, full dynamic range fast pianists...
Fast scales, fast double notes, octaves, arpeggios, trills, hand jumps...

Each pianistīs different.

They are in not particular order.

There are hundreds of classical repertoire pianists, Iīve only put a few  ;)
You could post pianists that are not in the list.

I didnīt listen to ALL pianists listed. But i want to get all possible tastes in one list to vote.
This could throw some interest results about knowledge of pianists in this forum.

All are well known pianists. But, if you like that who is most popular, vote it. Thatīs the purpose of this poll.

if the latter, id go for cziffra(no1), horowitz and *undecided

Nope, classical like academic. I didnīt want to put academic, because Jazz is academic too.

In general, all periods.

Aww, too bad you couldn't choose five. I had to leave out Gilels and Gulda for his Mozart. :o

My choices were Argerich, Gould and Gavrilov. I like Gould's Bach so much that he deserved to be among the three.

That's a great list you made! I voted for Horowitz, Richter and Pletnev. I actually tried to find Krystian Zimerman in this list, but I couldn't find him..

Bloody hell that's the most biggest poll options I've ever seen!
This is basically a "who's your favourite pianist" thread. My vote's with Hofmann but I like like Horowitz just as much.

Cziffra, Horowitz and I'm surprised you haven't included Sokolov...which forces me to choose other

Wow, Zimerman, Brendel and Sokolov!

I donīt know how could I forget them! I thought Iīve already put them.
Itīs really difficult to make a list, because you canīt modify it afterwards, and you canīt search with the browser search option in the list when you are making it.

I forgot famous pianists I would put first. Itīs a shame, isnīt there a way to modify the list?

WOW! Rubinstein has one vote only!
Thatīs strange.

I thought Rubinstein and Horowitz were the most famous pianists.

looks like the top 3 are -

richter
horowitz
cziffra

kind of predictable, but i randomly expected horowitz to beat richter.

Horowitz was SLOPPY.  The Michaelangeli recording of Schumann is amazing... Did i not see Lazar Berman on the list?  His Liszt is absolutely amazing.  Top vote from me is Martha Agerich for technique... Mitusko Uchida for *music*...particularly Mozart.

Me too, I honestly don't get how so many people love Richter. I'm indignant that Hofmann only receive one vote (which was from me!). A bit disgraceful.

i think it really depends on what is being played.  each of the artists listed have something good about them.  i prefer more 'detached playing' and not so full of emotion that it messes with the beat a lot or with the intention of the composer.

i really have always like richter, pollini, arrau.  my teacher has also suggested listening to martha argerich, although i think for many pieces i'd rather hear him.  of all the things he's taught me, it's to think about what sounds you are producing (a lot more).  now, when i hear recordings, i'll pick out places that have fuzzy pedalling, or a note that has no personality, or a mis placed phrase etc.  but,who are we to critique artists who have performed extensively.  i think that on most cd's you'll have some exceptional performances mixed with so so.  for a cd collection, i wouldn't even have just one artist for one composer, but rather many.

heard cassedesus for the first time the other day, and was very very impressed.  he is very tasteful and plays clearly and cleanly.

I voted Pollini, Kempff, Solomon (I'm a Beethoven junkie...).

Almost voted for Casadesus, Horowitz, Rubinstein, Hamelin. And others too.

Remember you can always change your votes.
Thatīs the most valuable option in this poll, so we can make sure we are voting with all honesty. After listening to someone you didnīt know, or just changing your way of thinking.

I did it already  ;D  Changed Moiseiwitsch and Hofmann for Ashkenazy and Pletnev

Does this mean you replaced votes for the former pair with the latter? if so, you are insane. Moiseiwitsch and Hofmann leave the other two in the shade.
