this young russian pianist stunned the jury at this year's liszt competition in the netherlands.

his nickname has become the 'PAVEMENT', derived from both his name , and the fact that his playing has comparable impact to that of falling off a tall building and colliding with the PAVEMENT.

witness this phenomenon for yourself -

(be warned, this contains hardcore explicit footage of insane pianism)

You know what bugs me though, that old lady wearing the red, she looks quite bored during both of his performances.

I know, but overall, I like Berezovsky more.

Is Pavel's a speed record?

By watching the mazeppa video I like him very much.
He has a tone more of my taste, not that light tone so common today.
I donīt know much new pianists with that legato and full tone. No matter he makes some wrong notes.

Notice the singing tone. I really like him!

Thanks Stevie!

Iīm going to watch the other video!

WOW! The 2nd video is even much better!
That tone!!! I tought Martha was the only pianist alive that cared about it.  :'(

I canīt express my gratitude!
If you know of someone alike please tell me so I can listen!

If one cannot play Mazeppa in Liszt Competition absolutely clean, one should not play it there. Not that I personally agree with the idea, but it is the fact. Passion is for concerts. Unfortunately, in modern competitions counts only speed and accuracy... mostly... apart from politics.

Yep, thatīs true.
And then we have all those recorded after winning competitions, and all sound much alike. Thereīs no much choice for consumers to listen.

Yeah, there's no way he would have gotten 1st place in the competition. His Liszt Mazeppa was sloppy, and several wrong notes and especially some of the octave leaps.

The Middle of the Mazeppa was fairly nice though - where it modulates into A flat Major.

here's two sound samples taken from his performance of the liszt sonata at the same competition:

the end of the fugue and re-entry of the 3rd theme

he made it to the semi finals, so i dont think the judges minded the wrong notes too much.

his mazeppa is simply thrilling and exciting, i mean - to play like that in this competition - the guy has BALLS!

*laughter* Yeah, well. I'm at the point where anything would be motivation to me, so I'll take what I can get.

You know what bugs me though, that old lady wearing the red, she looks quite bored during both of his performances.

I don't know if she looked 'bored' to me, but she sure bugged me a heck of a lot. Wonder why.

Sorry for bumping this topic, but can someone upload his video from "Mazeppa" again, cause the links don't work anymore and I really want to see his performance.

Thanks.  :)

B flat major.  The middle of Mazeppa modulates to B flat major.  Not to be a jerk or anything. I guess your pitch just aint that perfect.....Will Hunting.  :P j/k
