have heard rachmaninov playing debussy,  i think golliwogs cakewalk, and one more piece cant remember,   but never heard him play any ravel.  i really think that would be wowwwwwwwww, even though rachmaninov's music is so different from ravel's , but i have full faith in perhaps THE greatest pianist of the century.
cziffra playing prokofiev toccata, or for that matter even other prokofiev works.  i mentioned toccata, cuz i would like to hear   what speed he could get upto on that piece hehe .  did he record any prokofiev.  which other pianists did he record besides lizst and chopin?
lizst playing debussy! hehe. but i already mentioned liszst playing anything  , couldnt sound bad, could he?  but considering how much the pianistic styles of lizst and( debussy, ravel ) differ, it would be interesting to hear how he performed them, and how they performed his pieces too.

There are some recordings of Rachmaninoff and Prokovief playing their own works.

By the way, there is a cylinder out there with Liszts playing, but noone has found it.... How about the recording of Brahms, has anyone heard it? Sadly you cant understand anything in it. And the recording of Clara Schumman sounds very good, especially for such an old lady (I cant imagine how she must have played in her youth). There are also very nice recordings of Grieg playing a lot of his stuff.
For a good laugh, check out my posts in the audition room, and tell me exactly how terrible they are :)

By the way, did she record any of them?

Prokofiev is great, the orchestra is kind of lousy and the coordination between them is shaky. Check it out, it's definitely worth owning if you like Prokofiev.

Rachmaninov made a recording of Liszt Spanish Rhapsody. It was lost during WWII. I'd give a lot to have it.

I have heard it and it is the best Piano roll recording I have ever heard. I actually prefer Busoni's recording over many real recordings.

That performance of the Chaconne is unbeatable.

If I had to pick just one, I'd love to hear Chopin playing his A-flat Polonaise. By the time he wrote that he was quite weak so I'd be interested to hear how he played it.

As much as I enjoy Rubinstein's playing, I don't think his style is brutal and driving enough for Rudepoema, Petrushka, or Fantasia Baetica.

Did Bolet record any Scriabin? It would certainly be interesting to hear what he'd make of the piece. Btw have you heard Roger Woodward's recording of the Scrib PC?

I haven't found any if he did....does anyone know???

I do own the Woodward its 'good'...I prefered Michael Kiernan Harvey when I heard it last year (but I guess you always prefer something live)!!

here are a few recordings i wish existed...LISZT PLAYING HIS OWN WORKS!!!!! That would srely give the world a blessing which it barely deserves...lest we forget, he was the best pianist who ever existed.
