Lhevinne? I haven't heard MT's 25/6 but Lhevinne's recording is the peak of double note perfection imo.

i was going to mention him, other people are just as even, and many are faster.

I have heard faster, eg Browning & Cziffra. However, I don't think I've heard an execution of thirds as clear or even as Lhevinne's. Which pianists/recordings were you refering to?

Maybe Barere, Nojima, Browning, Kissin, Lhevine, Kuzmin...

- too many performances to narrow down

I think Browning said Ashkenazy had the best double note technique. I agree Ashkenazy's double third chopet on melodiya is quite remarkable...

Lhevinne by far.


Just listen to the double note runs in the thirds etude, La Campanella, anything he did really.

I have a recording of Cziffra playing the Liszt/Auber La muette de Portici.

That takes some beating.

again.  dr. cranmer.  did you know you don't have to change fingers always on double-notes?  well, he's got the inside scoop on that one.  (you have to take lessons to understand the technique he uses).

Sure. If you don't count octaves, those are small double-note runs.
