Sorabji Toccata No.1 by Powell

I got this disc and I just want to say one word: Wow

If he records OC like this piece it would be unimaginable. Listening to it would be like: "Ok, I just experienced everything there is to experience, I could die now."
"As an artist you don't rake in a million marks without performing some sacrifice on the Altar of Art." -Franz Liszt

A perfectly understandable and laudable reaction indeed; just don't die at that point, however, or you will miss the Sorabji recordings he makes subsequently...

The short answer is no. The reason for that answer is that I am not a record company; artists are usually hired by record companies to record music.

I couldn't agree with you more. This is an outstanding CD. I'm glad that there are pianists who are willing to put in the time to learn Sorabji's music correctly.

I am sorry if I disappoint you, but the long answer is precisely the same as the short one, as I had hoped my elaboration of the reason for the latter might have made clear. Let me elucidate our rôle further, if that helps. We certainly encourage such performances and recordings, just as we encourage the creation of the new editions of Sorabji's music that make such performances and recordings possible. That said, as we have made clear already, we do not actually engage atists to make such recordings - the record companies do that, sticking to their rôle while we adhere to ours.

In the hopefully unlikely event that you may need any further clarification of this situation, please do not hesitate to ask.

I had assumed as much; perhaps you might like to enlighten us all as to why. I hope nevertheless that - especially as you write "i gotcha" - you got the drift of what we wrote and understood it properly. Do enjoy the recordings!

why? HHHHMMMM....cuz I find humor in small things. lIke the fact that you said short answer is no and then proceeded to explain it hence making your short answer quite long. Not Bernhard answer long, but long enough. Just found humor in it.

Well, that's fine. Admittedly, I can't quite perceive any humour as such in it myself; I just gave a short answer and then a brief explanation of that answer, but if you can find a funny side of this that happens to escape me, then so be it! I don't know who "Bernhard" is, but I assume you to imply that he may be a more than usually loquacious forum contributor.

Anyway, as I said before - and far more importantly - enjoy the CDs!
