Okay, what about a Samick?
on: September 10, 2005, 04:20:29 PM
;D ;D  Okay, Okay, now I found a great little piano, and all's I have to do is convince my friend to hurry up and by her baby grand so she can sell it to me. :D.  Actually, I haven't decided on it yet, and am still looking.  Anyway, it's a Samick (sp?), and it's not a spinet, but not a full upright either.  It's somewhere in between -- 40 inches or so I'd guess.  But it has nice sound and a surprising amount of dynamic contrast.  Well, Jeremy (my new official piano adviser) what do you know of Samicks?  Isn't everyone going to be glad when I finally get one and stop posting different brands all over this board.  Btw, Jeremy, could you check my other Mason - Risch post again?  I threw in another question about another brand.  Thanks. :)

Lagin--

I was going to leave this one alone, but after several days I see no one has replied to you.

All I can say is, my piano was manufactured by Samick.  It is actually a "Howard by Baldwin."  Samick manufactured these pianos so Baldwin could sell them as a second line back in the 1990s.

I really like my piano.  I'm quite satisfied with it.  I think it sounds good, and it is trouble free.

I am sure Samick makes some good pianos.  They are not a premium line, and I"m also sure you can get better pianos by paying a lot more.

If the piano sounds good, probably the exact size of the upright is not too important.  In a small living room or parlor, even a small piano will produce good levels of sound.

Others are better to answer this, but at least you will get one reply.

Hi!

I bought a Samick SU-131 from my local dealer this summer. I thought I liked the sound and the feeling. But, I dont.

I've had the tech visiting me 7-8 times, and I'm still not satisfied with the sound. I hope the store can take it back...

Samick is a medium consumer grade piano suited for the average home use. (ie a tier 4 per Larry Fine)

The Samick corporation (SMC music) makes many different pianos for different quality levels & price points. To give you some perspective, the Samick branded piano is actually not their bottom of the line. (Hazelton, Remington & Conover Cable are I believe) . Above those comes the Samick branded. There are a number more above Samick as well.

I would recommend Larry Fines Piano Book as well as the 2005-2006 supplement. I would play ALL the pianos you can in your price range & make an educated decision from there. Best of luck to you.
