computer protection
on: September 10, 2005, 10:39:56 PM
What do you guys use for your antivirus and firewalls?  I use ZoneAlarm Pro as firewalls, and EZ Antivirus for virus protection, plus AdAware, Stinger, and Spybot for anti-spyware (free off the internet)...ez and ZA have an anti-spyware too.

for safety, i run one at least once a week -- what about everybody else? What do you think is the best?

Well, I am no pro at this stuff, BUT, isn't Spybot actually a virus in itself  >:( >:(?  I downloaded that awhile back and had to get it professionally removed and it created a number of different problems for my computer.  I hope your's is okay.

I would guess that you didn't get a real version of Spybot Search & Destroy...the official site is www.safer-networking.org    I've never had any problems with it.

But then, a lot of things can be considered "viruses".   I have heard AIM is harmful to your computer, anybody know more about that?  (I use it and have had a few problems with it.)

yes Spybot:Search and Destroy is the way to go.

if you use a router for your internet acess there'll be a built in firewall. i prefer not to use software firewalls, as they cause troubles to no end when it comes to file transfers and the like.

I use ZoneAlarm, AdAware, SpyBot and Avast (as anti-virus).
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

I use Norton Security, Adaware to clean my computer and sometimes a router if I'm using two computers simultaneously.   8)  And, mostly importantly, I always have window firewall on. :)

Not all routers have built-in firewalls, mine doesn't.

I use Kaspersky Anti-Virus, Kaspersky Anti-Hacker, Ad-Aware with Ad-Watch and Peer Guardian.

And which flavour do you prefer?

Debian stable on the  firewall / router / cable modem sharing box and Gentoo on the desktop dual booting with XP.
