Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor. Info?
on: September 12, 2005, 06:03:26 PM
Does anyone know about Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor? I need to know for sure the key of the second movement (I'm guessing relative major or dominant, but don't know for sure). And I need to know the key and the time signature of the third, as well as any information about development. For example, I know the 1st theme is light and high-spirited, and the second is a march. I don't know about the development though? Does anyone know what theme(s) it's based on? Thanks all.

The second mov't is in C major, it's a sort of song without words. The third mov't is in E major.
Otherwise...um...weird question. I don't think the theme is based on anything, he just wrote. The second theme is not really a march at all. It's a slow lyrical melody, enunciated first by a woodwind choir. Otherwise...just listen to the piece for more information, and look at a score. It's a great piece, worth your time to listen to and know.
