Who was Charles Bohm?
on: September 23, 2005, 03:05:03 PM
This composer seems pretty obscure to me.

I purchased (for almost nothing, out of the clearance bin) some sheet music by this composer.  The piece is "La Grace," and is identified as Opus 302, No. 5 by said Charles Bohm.

The internet has gotten me nowhere.  I did find references to two or three individual compositions by Charles Bohm, but no biographical info and no comment -- even brief -- about his qualities as a composer.

The public library here was able to locate references to two pieces by Charles Bohm at the Library of Congress.  These include "La Grce"  (Accent above the C -- probably the same piece I purchased).  The LOC also has a copy of "Grand Galop Militaire" by Charles Bohm.

Please do not confuse this composer with Karl Bohm, who is a different guy.  Charles Bohm is supposed to have lived from approx. 1875 to 1925, as I can recall.

In the past on this Forum I have wrongly used the word "obscure" -- as have others here -- for lesser known composers whose main works are still in print and still obtainable.

This time, I believe I have found a truly "obscure" composer.  I do like the "La Grace."  It appears to be a very sparkling and happy waltz with some fun things for the pianist who works with it.

I realize this is a long shot--

Thanks in advance--

It seems this guy is really obscure, yes.
