Lang Lang played chopin e minor concerto last night.
on: September 23, 2005, 05:13:56 PM
Did anybody else watch this concert besides me?. This was the first time i have seen lang lang perform, i was not very impressed. My first impression of him was that he has gone mad with power. His technique was Phenomanal. But he seemed to be overly acting a lot and to just be faking, and he dident have hardly any sense of dynamics and phrasing (at least it seemed to me). He overall looked like he liked having lots of people watch him. Very Egotistical. Very Imature. But still... I think there is absolute enormous potential in him, if he can just grow up.

I watched it too. It seems to me he played all of the notes but none of the music. The second movement was particularly horrendous, very little musicality. If anything, he was entertaining to watch. He must have muscles in his face that no one else has.

if you arent impressed by his technique alone, which is among the greatest in history, then you are mildly insane.

See my post in Performance. If that's entertainment (his face, he plays well), I'm going into Death Metal.

Someone should put a bag over his head.... ;D

I was definetly impressed by his technique- it's stellar. But there's more to piano then just playing notes. It's playing the music that seperates the good from the great.

If you haven't already seen post in Lang Lang in the performance category, I thought he resembled the person who played Mozart in Amadeus (especially the ugly hair). I mean he seemed bouncy, happy, joyful, (possibly inebriated), young, etc.. From what I've read up on Mozart, Lang Lang seems to mimic him in ways.

I personally liked his performance. His expressions and acting could of been a show alone, I thought they added to his performance. (Although I have to admit, he could've been a little more serious. By the way, does anyone know his age? I know he's young but I'm not sure how young.....

He is 24. Its a crying shame for he is one the most gifted pianist of the day and he is a circus performer:P. But he will get older and hopefully more wiser.

no, seperatre technique from music, and judge them independantly.

i wouldnt call anyone who isnt impressed by a phenomenal technique alone a fan of pianism.

a technique of alnglang's calibre is extremely rare, and it is a fascinating thin in and of itself.

and for the record, i enjoy him both musically and technically but i didnt see this performance.

Technique is NOTHING without Musicality. Personally I would rather watch some stiff arse bugger with small hands and bad technique, but could bring out the musicality...

Than watch a guy with impressive technique and sound as boring as bat sh!t.

And Arensky - Your right. :)

any serious pianist would have used the word 'hear' in this case.

Well, this is kind of embarresing, don't you think. What would his point be when he used 'hear'?'
