Where in the hell can I find some Shubert piano sonatas?
on: September 27, 2005, 02:37:34 AM
I have heard so many good things about these sonatas, yet I cannot find them anywhere, not online and definitely not in my music store. Where is it?

P.S. If any one has played them, how hard are they and are they really good?

I think you'll find that Henle prints them (I know all 3 of mine are henle's)

Henle publishes some of the seperately as well.

....and so does Schirmer

I love Schubert Sonatas!!!! A good choice

Cheers and good luck

I have the Dover book which is a nice, inexpensive reprint of the Breitkopf & Hartel edition.   Books a Million lists this one for $12.23 USD.

Perhaps, it's because of your spelling that you can't find them 8) 8)

The old Breitkopf & Hartel is famous for mistakes in the Schubert sonatas. Be warned!

I have only ever played one Schubert Sonata and that was the G Major D894 Op78.

To play it is easy, to play it beautifully is hard. 10,000 shades of pianissimo are required.

Have to admit i ignored the repeats.

Maybe because it's "Schubert" and not "Shubert?" I am not being sarcastic here... if the music store is set-up alphabetically, that could be your issue...

Plus, I don't think you will find much piano rep. in hell anyway.

I can think of a couple of pieces at least that might be used...
