Saint-Saens piano concerto 2 tempo to last movement
on: September 30, 2005, 12:47:52 AM
How fast is the last movement of this concerto supposed to be played at?? Phillip Entremont plays it at around 208 bpm. But I have also heard this played much slower than that. Has anybody played this concerto before?? I am looking into learning it at the current moment, so comments on how to approach this piece would be greatly appreciated.

great concerto, great choice :D i've got a naxos CD of it with Idil Biret playing. i've not got an exact MM marking, but she plays it FAST and it sounds great to me. have fun with it.
You either do or do not. There is no try- Yoda

Life is like a piano, what you get out of it depends on how you play it

well... it can be a nice piece to play, but i don't really find it that "Masterpiece" status.

yes, very fast. but it has to be clear, and precise.

Yes.. but exactly how fast? do you think it can be played to fast?? ofcourse its going to have to be exact and precise, especially with this piece. The orechstra is very restrained, its like your lackey, unlike many other romatic concertos.

I'm learning it at the moment and the marking on my music says 120=minim. Good luck! You're gonna need it...
I dont play an instrument, I play the piano.
