My teacher charges $10.00 for a half-hour lesson.

She is very experienced, and has a master's in music from Oberlin College, which is a rather classy school.

She is very old at this point, and I believe she is phasing out her active teaching.

I feel very fortunate.

Her philosophy of piano pedagogy sort of meshes with my own.  So we are a very comfortable fit.

To help clarify what we are talking about here, I am a 64-year-old senior citizen.

Alzado, the price is very reasonable.  I think you might be getting senior discount! ;D

Hmm this is difficult to compare.

How many dollars to pounds?

My teacher charges £40 per hour. At this local music school my sister goes to i think they charge about £25, the pupils there go up to about grade 8 (ABRSM).

I charge £20 phr currently again my teacher charges £40 per hour I have heard of London teachers charging £75 phr - which to me seems obsurd BUT if your used to HK and paying £100 per hour then i suppose its cheap. essentially you need to charge waht the market can support and what you need for support ie you dont starve  ;D

With the current currency my teacher charges 77 US$. But it usually becomes one and an half hour... =) (I remember back when I used to go at the state/community music school... 22.5 minutes! *sigh*

it depends what level they are and what level + status. you can have an excellent teacher that just isnt very known or doesnt have many pupils so will charge less. it varies tbh.

I charge $15.00 CAD for half hour, but i'm just beginning to teach (2nd year now), and my teacher who is very experienced charges $19.50 per half hour.  It's really cheap where I live.  Here, it's the same price regardless of grade.

EDIT: Oops, I lied, I WILL BE charging $15.00 in another year and a half.  Right now I'm only $12.50.

I pay $10.00 USD per half hour for my daughter's lessons.  And mine.  Same teacher.  But I probably aggravate her more!  <grin>

$22.50 per 1/2 lesson here in California for students coming to my studio.  Much more if I travel to their house.  Mostly because I loose a 1/2 hour in traveling and I don't like driving to them anyway, and hope the higher price encourages them to come to me instead.

Goodness!  Where do you live?  Maybe I should be charging more.  I have a year and a half teaching experience with all ages (4 - 74), and will have my grade 10 RCM certificate this summer, and all my ARCT theory done then too (level 5, that is), and I'm still at $12.50!  I think I'll move my present students up to $15.00 in Sept. 2008, since I JUST went from $10.00 to $12.50, but any new students, perhaps I'll charge $15.00 now, and $16.50 in Sept. 2008?  I don't know, you see the MOST qualified teacher in our city charges $20.00 per half hour, so I don't want to charge the same as someone from Russian and with 30 years of teaching experience, because that wouldn't be fair!

$10/half hour.. :'(
I have been out of college a year now.  I would LOVE to raise my rate, but in North Dakota I won't be able to go up too much more.  As a kid I took lessons for $6/half hour.  Just typing this out makes me thing that I should go up to $12 next year..I'm worth it!  ;)  And if they argue, well theres the door... :D
