Recommend some piano books, please...
on: October 05, 2005, 09:57:47 PM
Hi folks,  I posted this on mys usual forums (guitar related...), but thought I might get some good response over here, too!

I've been playing guitar for years and I'd consider myself a pretty decent gutiarist and musician in general. I can play many styles, I'm a decent sight-reader, I know plenty of theory, and I have a pretty good ear.

But one thing I don't know how to do is play the piano. I can figure stuff out if I sit down long enough, because I know what notes belong in what chords, etc. but since I never play, my fingers have no muscle memory in that area.

I feel like an incomplete musician because I have no keyboard skills whatsoever. Most folks I play with can play multiple instruments. My goal is pretty much to be able to play some basic tunes and be able to work out arrangements for other instruments on the keys. Composer's piano, in other words. I have no desire to be a great pianist; I'd rather put that effort into guitar.

So, I want recommendations for books along the lines of "Playing the piano for folks who already play other instruments." My plan is to take some lessons or classes at the JC at some point, but I figure at least for the time being, my general musical knowledge will be enough to get me started, I just gotta get my fingers to do what I want 'em to.

Thanks!
Geoff

Have a look at this one:

https://www.dummies.com/WileyCDA/DummiesTitle/productCd-0764551051.html

And if you google “piano for guitar players” you will get 2270000 replies!

(and to make your fingers do what you want them to do, have a look at "Kill Bill" vol. 1 ;))

Best wishes,
Bernhard
