Steinway Model C, built in 1889, restored in the 1970's.

Hamburg Steinway Model D,  1971.

Sauter 6ft, 1997

Shigeru Kawai 7ft, 1999

Grotrian 9ft Concert Grand, don't know when it was built.

These are the individual instruments I have played that really stand out as superlative instruments.

I have played on a couple of steinways... Even got the play on the one David Helfgott practiced on before he performed the Rach 3 when he came to perth and practiced with the ABC.

Pretty cool. The uni also has a Steinway Grand but I barely ever get to touch that since I'm doing mostly education units this year.

petrov's aren't bad.  i played one for the first time at cunningham pianos and it had a beautiful feel and sound.  i tend to like stiffer piano action, so the steinways and kawaiis seem that way more than even the bosendorfers - although they have such a cool bass.

maybe the more important thing is who's your technician.  you can make a bad piano sound good, but a good piano sounds bad if you don't get help to make it sound optimal.  also, the keys on some pianos play very unevenly - (weighted wrong).  i hate to think i'm going to play on a really good piano and then - yuk - it's just wrong!

Steinways model D, both Hamburg and New York. (Hamburg is my favorite)
Pramberger (not very well known, but great piano).
Kawai Concert Grand (the action wasn't so good, the sound was)
I am still waiting for the great day of playing on a Bosendorfer... Which is pretty close.

Newly prepped and tuned: CD503, Horowitz's Steinway D.

Very very sweet sound.  I really liked it.  I haven't played on many other Steinway D's.

Of the about 5 steinway D's I've played on.  I also liked one from Steinway Hall that had a red tag on it that said "Sold, Lang Lang."
Practice!

Most memorable was I believe an Ibach, it was probably 7 or 9 footer.  The action was verry bumpy and in need of regulation, but the sound was just WOW!

Other than that, Yamaha CFIIIS in competition and I regularly played a Kawai EX in unversity.

I have yet to try the Steinway D, but what I really want to play is the Bosendorfer 290.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

The Steinway D at my school WAS amazing.........touch and sound, but over just the last two years, our technician has experimented with it TOO much.

Almost every time I've performed in public it's been on a Steinway D. That being said, my favorite piano of all time is still my little Steinway L (1929). Nice even touch, rich tone, and a clear bass that's not metallic. The next best piano would be a Steinway B I played in a classroom at a college once (I got to use it as a practice room before a competition ^_^).

I went to look at grand pianos at a showroom and they had a 1880's Steinway and it was absolutely amazing!!! I can't remember the model but there was also a Steinway D concert grand new in the room - you get to play it when you bought a piano!!!
Working on: Schubert - Piano Sonata D.664, Ravel - Sonatine, Ginastera - Danzas Argentinas
