mongolian bowl dancers
on: October 10, 2005, 04:50:11 PM
yes!  i saw it on sesame street.  but, i was actually enthralled by it.  it's just a simple dance you do with about 4-5 bowls stacked on your head.  you gently wave one arm up and the other down, while turning around 180 degrees.  if you make it all the way around (you won=smile).  for those that don't make it, utter humiliation.  the bowls fall and crack.  the women that perform it are extremely light and graceful.   (5-6 year old mongolian girls start learning how to do it by eating meals with bowls on their heads).  of course, when elmo tries, the bowls fall off and crack on the floor.

just another strange topic - for a gloomy overcast day.  (*goes to kitchen and tries it)

and i like your pics, thalbergmad.  kinda wonder what high elevations do to people's balance.  maybe it's a really hard thing to bowl dance in mongolia?

boliver, are you still at grandma's?  what's the situation now?  i hope that it's getting better (girlfriend still alive purse attacks?  grandma ok?) hope that you're able to go home soon if you aren't already.
