Bach chorales in Richman's book
on: October 18, 2005, 07:35:24 PM
Hi,
I have been practicing sight reading from Richman's book and i am nearly doing fine with it up till now. I've reached up to Visual perception drill # 5 where it is required to sight read the Bach chorales. I don't know what are the Bach chorales but I don't think they are the chorale preludes coz i think they are a bit hard for sight reading practice.
So, if can anybody tell me where can i find the score of the Bach chorales or can e-mail me with them, i will be so grateful....
Thanks

The Bach chorales are traditional Lutheran church hymns that Bach took the trouble to harmonise (in four voices). So they were not composed by Bach, just “arranged” so to speak. Yet he did such a stupendous work that they are used to this day by students of harmony as case-examples of how to do it.
Have a look at this site for more information:
https://www.jsbchorales.net/intro.html
(they also have PDF and MIDI files with the 371 chorales).
Best wishes
Bernhard.

The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side. (Hunter Thompson)
