Hmmmm... Do everything you can to convince your mom to let you continue lessons. I would guess the best way for you to learn right now would be with a teacher. If you have to, I'm sure you could continue learning on your own until you can get a teacher again.

You could read through this site for a lot of great ideas, here's somewhere to start: https://www.pianostreet.com/smf/index.php/topic,13011.msg139872.html#msg139872

...We could use a little clarification on your situation, to give better help.

- How long have you been playing? How long with a teacher?
- What's your skill level? (pieces you can play? scales/chords/arpeggios?)
- Why does your mom want to stop lessons?
- Am I even understanding your post correctly?

        Greetings sweet91.

You should definately convince your mom to not let go of the lessons, for you will learn much surer with them. However if it doesn't go in your favor make sure to keep on practicing your repertoire, learning more pieces and practicing technique. I do hope that you will retain your teacher.

Piano is something you can have with you all your life.

It is a very worthwhile investment.

If you have the right teacher, you're at the age where you can really start getting into it and taking off.  7th grade was when I started getting interested.
Music is something no household should be without.  Preferably piano too.

But at your age, I would not advise you to try without a teacher.  You need the help with technique and interpretation that you probably do not have the insight into now.  Somebody needs to be there to guide you and listen to you, or else you will become lazy and sloppy.

Try making a compromise with your mom.  Exchange piano for some other activity, or offer to foot part of the bill yourself (that is, if you have a job or some sort of income.)

Good luck!

You can learn it w/o a teacher. Just study all the details carefully, and beter still, trust in yourself and God;D I'm still at grade 3 (I'M STILL ELEVEN YEARS OLD!) and my teacher left for Manila months ago. Now I don't have a teacher anymore, but still studying (I REACHED GRADE 3!) I call it 'self-study, self-play'. Good luck!  ;)

Just an anecdote:

I took lessons from age 8-11, then stopped to take cello lessons (we couldn't afford both in terms of $$ and time).  From 11-17 I basically taught myself slowly from Fur Elise through the Pathetique and some Rachmaninoff preludes.  My musicianship was enhanced by playing cello, but I wasn't exactly the best piano student (even to myself as the teacher!), and now that I'm starting lessons again, I'm noticing my technique isn't particularly perfect.

My advice is, by all means try to continue lessons!

Yourself - Yes, God-no. God doesn't help moving your fingers, you all do it yourself.

And, now, you can't do without a teacher. You need someone to stop you from developping bad habits, what easily happens at this age. (I'm 13 now, so I know it.)

I'll second that.  You need a good teacher, I've seen too many people develop bad habits because they don't have a good teacher.

I started playing piano when I was 4 years old and quit after taking my Grade 2 exam.  So from the age of 8 years I have no teacher to guide me - after a long hiatus from the piano I started playing again on my own and it kinda works. :) A teacher is not a complete must but it helps to have someone to check your technique and what you're doing wrong if you are truly serious about playing the piano correctly and not just tinkering around and get a song out (most probably not properly).  Having said that, I think it all depends on yourself.  It depends mostly on how hard you work, how serious and how determined you are.
