piano videos wanted
on: October 20, 2005, 12:45:25 AM
I want to watch some people play piano because I want to see how the real pros play.  Piano playing on video is about as hard as finding senior citizen Bingo matches on video. I would really appreciate some help on finding some places to buy, rent, download piano performances.

Thanks.

you should be able to find dvds, maybe videos at any large Cd store in the classical or dvd section.

you can either goto www.dasdc.net and register and go into there recordings and videos section, some good vids are there, or you can download a p2p program, i suggest eMule because it has ALOT of stuff, but Limewire has better download speed i think at times, but not as much piano videos, so use eMule just search it in google or something, or you can buy piano dvd's off ebay, music store websites, cduniverse etc

hope this helps

Most of the record stores where I live have music DVD's, but very little to choose from for classical or jazz... You'd probably be better off searching around the internet and order the videos that way.

Try TV!

Grab the TV-guide one week, go through it and find every program that seems like it could be a music show, hop on the internet to verify, learn how to program your VCR to automatically record... A lot of these music programs are on at strange hours.

I found one channel on cable that had about 10 hours of music/week, and a few random programs scattered on other channels. You won't get all piano, but there's a high proportion of classical piano. Non-piano is still interesting to see/hear and is useful in developing a more rounded musical education and imagination. There's some interesting stuff out there, I like catching classical guitar duets.

You can also buy DVD recorders with hard drives, to edit out commercials or save yourself from accidentally recording the wrong show, if you've got the money to spend.

I have netflix...  https://www.netflix.com

and I go thru a search on piano.  I've just about rented everything I could on piano.  I got Horowitz in Moscow.  Richter,Michelageli, Agerich (spelling?), Cziffra, Cliburn, Cliburn competition, pianists of the bell telephone hour, the art of piano.  I've watched these over and over.

This is how I'm learning how to play the piano.   And also once in a while asking a real pro pianist who works sometimes as my accompanist (when I play violin).  I also get lots of tips from great players in this forum.

Good luck!

Go rent them all!  I think I have a lot more coming in.  It's amazing how different the players are.
Practice!
