How To Play These Ornaments?
on: October 21, 2005, 10:54:24 AM
Could someone please translate these ornaments into the notes that you actually play please :) I have a good idea of what i'm supposed to play, but i'm not 100% sure. It's from Mozart's Fantasie In D Minor.

Begin on Eflat as indicated then roll from F - E flat - D -E flat- F )  then for the second bar quickly place 3rd finger on G the second ornament shows a small sharp sign below so you play it (in essance as F sharp) if it was above it would be the  upper note you sharpen

so the second bar is G - A- G - (F sharp)- G -A- B
I would use               3   4  3       2            3  4  5  as fingering hope this helps

ps note that you have to take in to account weather the line is already a sharp if so it would be a double sharp

That is a good explanation but the # would not indicate a double-sharp even if there is already a # in the sig--there would always be x to indicate double-sharp. If there is a # in addition to the # in the sig, that would just be a courtesy accidental (or "Reminder accidental").

The only issue now it the rhythm, which isn't easy to accurately explain in words, so I would consult a recording, unless someone else wants to give the verbiage a shot.

I guess one way to think of it would be 16th, triplet 32nds, 16th, 16th.
OR:

Eb
F, Eb, D
Eb
F

where each line of letters would = 16th. It is all relative to tempo, though. That spot isn't too quick, fortunately.

Take Your Seat! Trifonov Plays Brahms in Berlin

“He has everything and more – tenderness and also the demonic element. I never heard anything like that,” as Martha Argerich once said of Daniil Trifonov. To celebrate the end of the year, the star pianist performs Johannes Brahms’s monumental Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Philharmoniker and Kirill Petrenko on December 31.
