Difficulty Rating - Beethoven Sonata No.1 Mvt 1
on: October 22, 2005, 04:09:58 AM

Title pretty much says it all - Im after an ABRSM grade rating on this movement if possible. I looked through it and thought about Gr 6-7, but I know nothing so I'll leave to your better judgement.

I shall have a blast at this one regardless as I like the piece very much.

Thanks people  :)

Ah, it seems this piece was a Gr7 in 1956. That probably makes it around Gr7 - 8 nowadays - little tougher that I had anticipated!

What would be a decent tempo for this one do you think? Iv heard it played pretty fast, and pretty slow as it happens.

The 4th movement of this sonata is really nice.   ;D

Ohhhh, yes! I think I will be leaving that one for a rainy day...  ;D

Actually, that is my favorite movement of the entire sonata, but its to advanced for me right now. Actually, considering its length, there isnt that much difficult stuff to learn - its just the fact that is about 400bpm  :o

One for the future me thinks!

The sonata as a whole is DipABRSM; I'd say the first movement is grade 8 standard (don't think I'd put it any lower than that).

Its Grade 6 for one of the Australian Boards....IMHO its a tough grade 6 or a softer grade 7 piece

as a teacher I haven't had a student find it that difficult once they get stuck into it.

good luck

What would consider a good tempo for this piece? I guess that could make a big difference to the difficulty.

The Quiet Revolutionary of the Piano – Fauré’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street

In the pantheon of French music, Gabriel Fauré (1845–1924) often seems a paradox—an innovator cloaked in restraint, a Romantic by birth who shaped the contours of modern French music with quiet insistence. Piano Street now provides sheet music for his complete piano works: a body of music that resists spectacle, even as it brims with invention and brilliance. Read more
