Stevie...Where is your respect for....

Da Kissin?

You have great posts, but you seem to dis da kissin, talk about speed?  He is a legend.  Sure his interpretations aren't the best, but when it comes to Kreisleriana, La Campanella, TEs he is better then da dongah and da shrimp..combined.

mass debatable.

i have the utmost respect for kissin (da GENIE), however i do have a quibble with what you say.

his technique is among the most reliable in the world, to be sure, and in certain pieces he is unmatched(maybe because few have tried to challenge him)

but first off, comparison in the same pieces is the most relaible way of judging technical skill....

now observe kissin's live at the proms video of la campanella, and observe yundi li's(da SHRIMP)

almost exactly the same speed, but kissin is obviously thrusting his respectable 10 extremely hard in order to catch up to yundi's cruise-control performance with his 15

kissin is more exciting, true, but the superior technician becomes obvious(this is just octaves however)

now compare a live video of kissin's fleridermaus thingy(the grunfeld nutbuster) with langlang's

langlang's is alot more insane and speedy in the difficult parts...scales, and especially insane octaves.

my mind is always open, but i base my opinion on the evidence i have observed, give me some more evidence in kissin's favour, and my opinion may change ;)

Man, what is it with this instrument - it seems the more talent an individual has, the less they can speak properly?! I mean, you have the boy Kissin, the boy Grosvenour (saw this kid on TV the other day, amazing!) and many more Im sure.

Do you think its like when someone loses a sense (the others get stronger), but in reverse  ;D

I bet he speaks better English than most of the Yanks here thpeak Russian.  Gotta love the way he talks.  Everything is that, but not for the sake of that.  Stevie, even in the video where he is at the Proms he says he doesn't even like to play Transcendental works, "not becuzth I am lazy to pracith", but because they are too easy for him!
Much repsect however to the shrimp, I didn't know he was a rocker in the 80's.

i have not heard Kissin's recording of Grunfield's fantasy on Die Fleidermaus...anyone want to share?!?!?!!? i have lang lang and Konstantin Sherbakov...and i think that Sherbakov's performance of the piece is WAYYYYY more kickass than lang lang's......thats just my opinion....if nobody has heard i suggest checking it out!

Cheers!
