Who was the tallest and the shortest of the past composers?

Rachmaninov was described as a "6 foot scowl", so must have been pretty tall... and every time i've heard about Bach, I imagine a short and plump man... but I don't know why... LOL

mozart, beethoven, and chopin were very short by todays standards

liszt was considered rather tall and lanky in his day, but its hard to say what that means by todays standards.

Makes you wonder how such little people could manage huge grand piano's. Obviously height isnt directly proportional to hand size or strength, but it certainly must hold influence.

I think that Rachmaninov was 6ft 6.

D'albert was only slightly over 5ft.

at Chopin's time, playing the Chopin études was easier, considering the instruments of the time.

Ravel was known to be small.  He even had his furniture made in small format.

That's the first time I've heard Rachmaninoff described as good looking. His hair was very bouffant when he was young!
Schubert was short and round. He sounds quite cute in a I'd-like-to-give-him-a-big-hug sort of way. I don't remember his exact height but he was in the very low range of 5'.
I read Chopin was about 5'5". Can't remember where...

Schubert was short...I think he was around 5ft 1 - 5ft 2 (I think I read somewhere he was 156cm tall!)

Weren't people generally shorter in past centuries because of health, nutrition, diet etc? Whenever i visit old castles or buildings the door frames are always really low. Do you think future generations will continue to get taller?

I think Wagner was fairly short in stature. He made up for it, as many of this size do, by the colossal ambition of his aims - the "Napoleon complex" perhaps...
