Request addvice concerning repretoir
on: August 26, 2003, 09:36:59 PM
I'v been playing the piano for 3 years and am working on the pathetique sonata (1st mouvment)by Beethoven. Although it's not out of my leauge it is resonobly chalenging so it's taking me a fairly long time to learn it. I'm shur it will pay off eventually but in the meen time I don't have much of a repretoir.
I was wondering if someone who has a wider knowlege of calssical music cauld recomend some fairlly short but non the less proper (not some simplefied arangment of somthing) pieces which would not be tereblly difficult for me to learn but at the same time intresting.
I'm between greade 4 and 5. I have good cordination but my scale speed and fluency isn't yet, quite at grade 5 standard.
I know his stuff is ment to be fairlly hard but are there any chopan pieces that would be within my reach.
I would would be extreamlly gratfull for any advice any one cauld give.

Look for the reportoire book edited by John Thompson, his 5th grade level. He has some great pieces in there, for example, May-Night by Palmgren. Beautiful piece that is not well-known at all.
