I am a beginner at the piano and i like the dark, fast paced kind of classical music.
i dont have piano lessons, i was wondering if anyone could tell me where and what books i should get to practise excersices and techniques......

Well, I will give you the advice you will doubtless get from others:
1. Get a teacher
2. Read Chang's book:

3. Keep reading the forum; use the search function to look for answers to your questions
4. Sooner or later, you will read something here by Bernhard. Pay attention to it!

Well, why do you want to learn piano if you dont want to get a piano teacher?

You must study under a piano teacher if you want to learn piano. period.

Speaking for myself, I was self-taught, and playing for about 4 years before I ever had a piano teacher, and was considered rather good (for pop music) before I ever took a lesson.
