Libetta, how good is he?
on: November 04, 2005, 10:59:31 AM
I checked out Libetta´s official site and I was a little dissapointed by the clips on the page actually.

I expected him to play very fast but it turned out that his tempos were pretty slow in general. Pathetique mvt. 1 was played too slow for my taste and I didn´t like the way he played.

Anyone know of any onlineclips where he shows what he can do? I am in particular interested in hearing him play Godowsky´s Chopin variations.

Libetta is UNBELIEVABLY good! Really!

Check out his Libetta in Lecce Live CD/DVD. Amazing performances of La Valse and also both books of the Brahms-Paganini Variations, at frighteningly fast tempos. He is AWESOME!

Very impressive!

He is lefthanded, right?

Do you have any clips of him playing the two handed Chopin variations?

Checked out the clips from Libetta in Lecce as well. Is it just me or does he look like Mona Lisa´s brother?

His recording on the complete Liszt's transcriptions on Wagner's operas is impressive. No doubt is a virtuoso and not only by mere speed.

one of the best techniques ever....nuff said

uneven musically though, he can be stunning and elegant, and colourful, but sometimes he is just boring

that 10/4 LH vid is the msot awesome display of LH technique ive ever witnessed

I would love to see a high quality and close-up video of Libetta playing Godowsky.

Anyone know where I can find any?

Here is a DVD I found.

VHS/DVD

DVD NAIVE 2003
Les Pianos de la Nuit
Piano recital in La Roque d’Anthéron (regista: Bruno Monsaingeon)
Strauss, Liszt, Debussy, Cajkovskij, Ligeti, Hummel, Alkan, Saint-Saëns, Chopin-Godowsky, Delibes
DVD DR 2101

Anybody know if he plays the twohanded Godowsky studies (Chopin etudes) on this one?

dear chromatickler,

loved the miamipianofest site.  i've been listening for part of this morning and it's really cool  (since you can just click on the artist at the top and listen to their playing).

emanuele arciuli is quite something.  boris's anatoly liadov prelude (op. 57, #1) was a great listen, too.  i think i want to play that prelude.  am enjoying this site a lot!

yep, and thats probably the most amazing piano DVD in existance

in terms of value for money, its a reall long and varied concert, all awesome

ive had the DVD for over 2 years now, and he plays...the 10/5 and 25/9 combo, then 25/2 with right hand octaves, then the left hand revolutionary.

they are all amazing, the 25/2 is particularly phenomenal, i couldnt really imagine his interpretation being bettered.
