The Quiet Revolutionary of the Piano – Fauré’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street

In the pantheon of French music, Gabriel Fauré (1845–1924) often seems a paradox—an innovator cloaked in restraint, a Romantic by birth who shaped the contours of modern French music with quiet insistence. Piano Street now provides sheet music for his complete piano works: a body of music that resists spectacle, even as it brims with invention and brilliance. Read more

Chopin op 25 no 8, m. 3
on: November 05, 2005, 12:05:10 AM
I have reviewed two different editions -- the Padewerski edition and the regular Dover edition -- of the Chopin etude Op. 25 No. 8.  In measure 3, the Padewerski edition notates a C natural at the top of the last sixth of the third triplet.  The regular Dover addition marks it as a C#.  The C# makes more sense musically, but taking into consideration that the Padewerski edition is more, standard, which should I follow?

Henle has a C natural.  I assume your Dover is Mikuli.  I probably wouldn't trust that one.

Every recording that I have heard uses the C natural and, as metioned on another post, is in the Henle "Urtext".  An edition that I have found helpful is the Alfred, edited by Julio Esteban.  I use a somewhat hybrid fingering, pulling from several editions to suit my hand.
