What piano composer are you closest to???
on: November 08, 2005, 12:27:42 AM
This is a different question than whats your favorite composer. I am talking about like what music describes you.

For me, its Brahms. For some reason I fell really compeled and close to much of his music. Especially the Intermitzi.

intermitzi?  intermezzi?  i don't really know.  guess that spell check will work it all out.

i can obtain satisfaction by going through all the possible feelings there might be in my subconcious at the time by play several beethoven sonatas.  if i feel really sprightly, mozart.  he makes the lightest use of the fingers and is a great warm-up physically and mentally.

Beethoven for sure
The masterpiece tell the performer what to do, and not the performer telling the piece what it should be like, or the cocomposer what he ought to have composed.

Despite the fact that I've heard almost none of it, I'd have to say the music of Michael Finnissy describes me: eccelectic, extremely demanding, confusing, uncompromising, and possibly genius but not superficially accessible.

Chopin and Beethoven (depends on my mood)
You either do or do not. There is no try- Yoda

It well might be Beethoven.  Others I feel "close" to are Schumann, Grieg and Mussorgsky.

BEETHOVEN!!! ;D
It all happens on Discworld, where greed and ignorance influence human behavior... and perfectly ordinary people occasionally act like raving idiots.

A world, in short, totally unlike our own.

i feel closest to chopin, although brahms intermezzi were fitting me very well too. on the other hand, i feel very close to tchaikovsky (recently discovered it) . sometimes ,like today, is rachmaninoff, just i haven't played much of his music (except etudes tableaux) but i have very clear idea how i'd like it to sound one day when i achieve techical ability to play his concertos

well i decided that if i could marry any composer it'd be beethoven. however i have some connection with ross edwards, which could possibly be because he was born on my birthday, and is australian, and i really like his music. like it's not my fave, but there's an element to it that appeals to my 'inner child'...

Which composer best represents my musical philosophy, intention and spirit ? It would have to be Ives, Delius or Milhaud. Can't make up my mind.
