Prelude al'apres midi d'un faun.
on: November 08, 2005, 05:55:18 PM
Greetings.
Debussy composed this masterpiece based on the poem by Mallarme. (I am trying to interpret the poem however it seems that I will spend some time on it
) The poem does make references to flutes and syrinxes singing dream like melodies of vast melancholy. My question is........are there any recordings that are available that you know of might stand out? If anyone knows, I do wonder of many renditions of this piece of which I want to hear. (The information presented before the actual questions doesn't quite relate to this particular boad but.........)
Best Wishes to all.

The EMI recording with Stokowsky conducting the Berlin Philharmonic + his own orchestra is good.
Isn't it such a fantastic work though? The sounds are so lush and colorful. I did not know Prelude was based off of a work by Stephane Mallarme, but I am very fond of Ravel's Trois Poemes de Stephane Mallarme. Do you have the text in digital format? I have about 3 piano transcriptions of the prelude if you are interested.

Great thanks for the suggestion.
. Yes I have somewhat heard of the pieces you are refering too, but I am still a beginner and look forward to playing Ravel's wonderfull pieces in the future. Thanks for offering me the preludes. You can find Mallarme's poems free on several sites. Thanks for the suggestion.
Best Wishes to all.
