What would you want in your soundproof room?
on: November 10, 2005, 01:24:21 AM
The following is a recent blog post I published titled "Cage."

"I wish I had a soundproof room with nothing inside except a desk, lamp, electric typewriter, and chair; this room would have a door that once closed would not reopen for two hours. If the music of my blood in circulation and the sound of my nervous system in operation did not distract me, this room—physical and mental safety concerns aside—would be nirvana."

What would you want inside your soundproof room?

Haha, the Cage reference.  ;)

I would have pretty much the same - desk, lamp, my "special" ms paper, pen, chair, all my music books, a computer with internet access.

and a piano, I don't care if I can't hear it.

I'm glad you caught it; I incidentally titled the post "Cage."

I've never heard about a soundproof dorm room.

For two hours? Comfy chair, lamp, tea, and a book. Right now the book would be House of the Dead by Dostoyevsky, but any classic literature would do.

I like Pianoistimo's suggestion of the outdoors.

you mean peter smith?  i hope he's out there somewhere.  i'll look him up on the internet for you.  (ok - he can't be the private investigator.  has to be the guy at cambridge university teaching philosophy.)  wait a minute.  i found a peter smith pianist.  no.  he's too old for you.  ok.  here's a peter smith - he's an oboist for the philadelphia orchestra.

ok. jennir  - don't rush things, but those philadelphia orchestra members are worth taking a look at - and listening to.

well, i kindof hope it was just one of those strange dreams where 1/2 is true and 1/2 is not.  i mean, i hope you meet the dream guy, but that seeing your children at the age they were when small - was just how you wanted to remember your children and not the age they were when they died.
