2nd place for me. The recording of Michelangeli may be the most remarkable single piano performance ever recorded.  :o

Ivo Pogorelich has a "unique" ( ;)) recording of it which I find better than any other. It has all the marks of the pianist (besides an excruciatingly slow tempo - he plays Gaspard at a fine tempo), including his unbelievable staccato runs and clarity in general. He gets a great deal of colors out of the piano, too, especially in Scarbo.

Although it's middle-of-the-road, Pascal Roge's recording is very good too. I'm not a fan of Geisseking's Gaspard.

Do you find his tempo slow but tastefull, or?

I personally think this a piece where you really should play fast at least during the final.

I like it fast but there are some pieces that almost everyone seems to play too fast like "Le rappel des oiseaux" for instance.

Pogorelich's is the best and most original IMO. The slow tempo and clear articulation make it even more eerie.

Kobrin on the other hand, is terrible. Not only is his Scarbo (live from VC)  interpretation middle-road, it is quiet messy. I have a friend who plays it live significantly more accurately.

I don't like Gieseking's Ravel in general, it's nothing too special and it makes me fall asleep.

If Michelangeli's Gaspard is anywhere as good as his Ravel Concerto in G, it would probably be one of the best recordings (I haven't heard it yet).

If Perlemuter's Gaspard de la Nuit was of better recording quality, probably that.

But otherwise, i'd say Louis Lortie's wipes the floor with most other pianists
