Counting!
on: November 14, 2005, 12:30:23 AM
Can someone please give me some advice on counting the beats in music, i.e. to help you work out the rhythm. Some advice on the most used time signatures would be helpful, I don't want to rely on listening to CD's too much in order to know how the rhythm goes.

Do you understand what the top and bottom numbers of a time signature mean?

You also need to check your playing against a metronome from time to time. It's easy to pull the tempo around. But you also need to be able to count without it.

Thanks for the replies, but I don't think you entirely understood the question, I don't think it was clear enough
I know all about time signatures and notes values, and have done for quite some time
I'm just looking for alternate methods of counting... does everyone use the 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 method for 4/4, or are there different ways of doing this?

Of course i think most people use the 1+2+3+4+ method, i do and it is the best way. Go with that.

I don't want to seem unimaginative - but what other method could there BE besides 1+2+3+4+?
