Dohnanyi Exercises
on: November 19, 2005, 10:28:54 AM
In my opinion, these exercises are great! They really help with finger independence (as he promises), and they have really solved many issues for me, especially with playing fast, even scale passages (Haydn comes to mind  :)). I'm not a huge fan of finger exercises, as I prefer to use real music, but these ones are great, and they don't strain your muscles at all if you do them right. I only do first few pages of them , and they really work!

What do you guys think?

Yes, I have this book. As far as exercises go, it's pretty good. Some quite neat modulations so you can cover all keys quite quickly.

I'm doing some of these, definitely working some skills I lack. After working on 'em, it suddenly gets figured out and is no problem.

Ya gotta be careful with these though, I could see how practicing them wrong could seriously injure someone.
