Lang Lang out of the blue
on: November 24, 2005, 01:33:06 PM
Something funny which happened yesterday.

It was 9 PM, I had just left the conservatoire where I had been practicing for a couple of hours, when a huge poster caught my attention (I was waiting at the bus stop): "Lang Lang - Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro - Nov 23th - 8 PM".

"Man, Lang Lang will be here... hmmm... which day of the week will that be?... hmmm... wait! It's TODAY!!! It's ONE HOUR AGO! It's NOW!!!"

So I headed to the theater. I had no money. I went to speak to the doorkeeper. They were in the interval. I started a most peculiar conversation:

"Good evening, would it be possible that I watched the final part up there in the galleries" (I meant the worst place they have there) "pretty quiet in my corner?"

"This is not possible."

"Are you sure it isn't? I won't disturb."

"This is not possible. You must have an invite."

"I don't have one."

"So..."

"Please", I pleaded.

"No, sir. This is not possible."

"Ok, then (sigh), thank you very much."

At least I tried...and then I went home with that weird feeling that Lang Lang had been right there (I could almost hear him in my imagination), a few meters and walls away from me... and I didn't even know he would come to Brazil... just fell from the sky on an otherwise absolutely ordinary Wednesday.

Cheers,
    Vinicius.
