piano on fire
on: November 26, 2005, 11:20:18 AM
today i saw the movie 'great balls of fire' for the first time.  jerry lee lewis played by dennis quaid.  that was some movie!  he throws some alcohol on the piano, lights a match and then the piano is in flames in the middle - and he keeps on playing it!  and, those sections where he's doing a glissando with his hand and then takes over with a foot.  or, jumps onto the keyboard and pounds it.  i was horrified by the grand piano getting knocked off stage and ending upside down (legs up)...but overall the movie was quite interesting (if you can call it that).  lots of acting from dennis quaid - must have been over the top at the time if these things happened.

Perhaps he started the trend for setting fire to instruments.

Hendrix got through a few guitars.

I couldn't imagine Rachmaninoff torching his piano, getting off with 13 year old girls and trashing hotel rooms.

no.  rach was dignified.

dennis quaid is a pretty good actor, though.  can't say i agree with marrying a 13 year old, but the energy he had for music was intense.
