controlling your perception of time
on: November 27, 2005, 01:53:36 AM
Any tricks?

Maybe it has to do with exercise?

Some days I can't seem to keep up and the day is over.

Other days seem to drag on an on.

Exercise, completing tasks (v leaving them to be continued), having extra time (no work)....

What is it that makes time drag sometimes and fly by other times?

I'm referring more to the work side of things.  Fun makes time fly of course, but when you're working I mean.

Any ideas?

I think it's the thoughts flying a mile a minute that makes time drag at work, especially when they rest on something else I would rather be doing. I try to focus on completing the task at hand, and to distract my mind with the radio. Becoming a mindless work zombie, pretty much.

I have the benefit of being able to set my own hours though, and the sooner I finish the job the sooner I can go home and play piano.

A big part of work is the people you work with too. Socializing helps the day go by a little smoother, but is contrary to getting any work done. If I were paid by the hour, I would probably do a lot more socializing.

seems that whenever i want to control anything, it ends up being out of my control.  i say, if you forget what day it is - simply ask.  the grocery store clerks have heard it all before.  (unless you're a week off).

what's the most troubling to me is the occasional lapses where for three days straight, the keys are missing.  using the spare set and trying to remember, yet not trying too hard (as to completely nix finding them).

and what happened to all the silverware - that was my husband's question tonight.  i don't know!  it ended up missing (half of it).  and the big roaster pan.  now where could that hide?  i think some kind of delirium is taking over.  my husband still remembers things really well.  when he's say 10 years older - i'll just say 'what silverware?'  'what roasting pan?'

I once spent 3 weeks in the highlands of Scotland.

I actually forgot what day it was.

My wife has a fridge magnet that says...

                      "Alcohol is the answer,
but I can't remember the question!"

Cheers
