Intermission
Brahms: Ballades op. 10

Petrushka is a better ending, but it's also a great opener.

Legendary repertoire.

Gornotsky, I like your original order better, with Stravinsky ending the first half.  Liszt will lead into encores much better, IMO.

I agree with the original order .... the Liszt has a more grand ending: tends to give that feeling of satisfaction to the audience. Petrouchka is a little too sudden with the glissando endings ...would be better to end the first half with it.
What encores do you have in mind?
[ Btw, the choice of program is wonderful ...perfect balance between the virtuoso showpieces and the deeper musical works! ]

Great programme!

As for encores, how about some Chopin? I can never quite imagine a piano recital without any Chopin. A waltz or a couple mazurkas would be excellent.

I dont like the Stavisnky. I think Schubert Impromptus Op 90 would fix better. The rest is great

I would move the Papilons to the opening of the 2sd half. I don't think they make sense where they are now, sandwiched in between Beethoven and Stravinsky, it makes them seem inconsequential IMO.  You could put Beethoven's  Andante Favori (the original slow movement to the Waldstein Sonata) in it's place. The Papilons will be better situated at the start of a 19th century set, particularly this one..

thank you thank you !!!!!  :D !
i have thought encores :
Chopin - Waltz in f major op. 34-3
Tschaikovkij/Pletnev - Andante Maestoso (from nutracker)
Liszt/Busoni - Paginini Etude in Eb 'Octave'
and if more demand:
Balakirev - Islamey

Why on earth would you ever replace something like Petrushka with Impromptus...

Keep the Petrushka, but you can't have a recital without BACH.  I love your program, wish I could be there.  Make sure the encore is something you can play when fatigued.  Even though you'll have extra adrenalin, it's still a tiring program.  You want to sound fabulous right to the end.  Congratulations!

Papillons is inconsequential, decadent, merely an arabesque.  I like it where it was, among other reasons because when I am listening to Stravinsky I am making connections to the comedia dell'arte elements in Papillons.

Plus Brahms and Schumann in the same half is like two very similar courses after each other in your meal.  Remembering is nice, but you need time to forget.

I have an additional idea, something short at the begining, to give a chance to those that come in late to sit down.

Tradition dictates you keep your encores secret.  tradition also dictates you send people home with a sleeper encore.  Traditions are there to be broken, but there is wisdom to it, I think.
