Your microphone, whatever device, and software.

for some reason the word 'shepps' comes to mind (about microphones).  ocasionally i'll hear conversations that my hubby has about recording.  i try to get way out of the way when he is setting up anything related to recording.  he goes into a sort of purposeful maniacal frenzy (calculating everything) and would walk right over me (like the crowds at wal-mart after thanksgiving) if i stayed in the way.  usually, i have to 'play something' over and over.  so after getting ready to record - i'm already done.

he used to have a perreaux system - to record.  how anyone figures out all this stuff, i'll never know!  just knowing where to plug it all in.  i think he used colored tape and labels.  one thing, i must admit, is when everything sounded right - my hubby would then get extremely calm again.  he was definately a professional.  none of that 'eerrreeeeech'  from the microphones EVER.  and, he always cut out background noises.  he subscribes to 'recording' magazine - if that helps.
