world's tallest bridge
on: December 08, 2005, 02:50:13 PM
recently built in france. very elegant bridge and also the tallest in the world so far. will try to find a site pic -
www.conway.com/ssinsider/snapshot/sf050103.htm
guess it's been opened since january 2005 - but i never heard of it before and found it interesting. traverssing it is supposed to feel like flying in a car. (there are 10 foot high wind screens - so cars don't blow away).

Poor pianistimo must be a little bored as she can't get out on her bike.

The bridge looks so huge compared to that tiny river.

yes! but, what i don't get is how the cable provide total support. they are only going one direction. don't you have to have a sort of cross somewhere for total support. what if the whole thing fell over one side or the other? is this why they put a bend in it? did they figure the bend at a precise angle for support?
i don't know why i am curious.

yes. that would be my response to driving over it too. it's just a curiosity of how the thing is going to last in high winds and weather. i mean, can it stand the strain even though it seems uni-directional?
