Who is the greatest composer/songwriter of the "fab four" ? Why do you think so?

Lyrics are literature, not music.

Lyrics are literature, not music.

songwriting is the art of the 2 wedded together, i had to seperate them because although they are close, john's lyrics have more substance and bite, and paul's melodies are just sometimes that bit more genius.

Paul without a doubt, although I am very fond of the few 'George' songs that were allowed; Here comes the sun, while my guitar gently weeps and Something- all classics. Ringo's Octopus's Garden can't be forgotten. Since I don't like posting in this off topic board, I shall list my other Beatles preferences here:

Singing: George is my favourite along with Paul (especially for when I'm 64).
Instrumentalist: Definitely George, his guitar playing is very underrated.
Post beatles: No real preference.
Performer: Difficult to say since I like them all so much.

I agree, George was supressed.

All you need is Paul, ba ba ba ba ba
All you need is Paul, ba ba ba ba ba.... ::)

But in spite of his smarmy cutesy boy arrogance, he is without a doubt the most talented songwriter of the 4, and one of the greatest of all time.
