For sheet music downloaders, what paper size do you use?
on: December 11, 2005, 03:21:52 AM
I'm really sorry this question was answered before and if I'm wasting the forum space.
I'm really new at this online sheet music printing. With American music so expensive and all, (compared to where I'm from anyway), I'm thinking about using this kind of service and print them myself.
What size of paper fits these PDF files the best? I click 'print' and 'preview' page tells me the file size is '8.27 by 11.69'. I did try to look for printing papers at OfficeMax. A4 or standard letter size papers are too small to read. I did see some 'presentation' papers that were 11 and 8? I don't remember exactly, but it was bigger than letter size paper.
What do you usually use? What brand and its size?
Thank you so much for helping me.

The 81/2 by 11 is a good size for .pdf files. Your printer should have a 'fit to margins' option, so it will adjust the size of the file to the page.

The pdf files (at least on this website) are created for 21 by 29,7 cm or 8.27 by 11.69 inces which is the A4 fromat. If you set your printer settings to "page scaling - none" or a similar setting for 100% printing size it will give you normal sized sheet music which should be easy to read.
As allthumbs suggests you can use other paper sizes as well by adjusting the printer settings.
Another thing to consider is the thickness of the papers. Standard printing or photo copying papers are about 90 gsm but I would suggest using thicker paper. About 140 gsm gives a very nice quality to the sheet music!
