Light Classical Music for Charity Event
on: December 12, 2005, 12:32:58 AM
Hey Guys, I'm a student that's been playing for about 13 years, I've been asked to play for a charity event and my program only needs to be about an hour long. They suggested light classical music so I was wondering if you guys could suggest any!
I was also wondering if I could do some cool arrangmenets of songs from musicals like "Memory" from cats. I want something that is sight readble basically but sounds good as I only have about 2 weeks to prepare. Since I'm doing this for free I don't want to have to be practicing 24 hours each day for the next two weeks either, so somehting simple that sounds nice, like some chopin nocturnes (c# minor posthmus is easy). Stuff like that, any help would be GREATLY appreciated! thanks!

I have a book of Gershwin's "Porgy and Bess" selections that are pretty easy, and everyone likes "Summertime" and "It Ain't Necessarily So."

Debussy "Claire de Lune", "Golliwog's Cakewalk" or "Minstrels" from Bk 1 Preludes (Although I thought Minstrels was harder than it looked)

Chopin Waltzes

Beethoven's "Moonlight" first mvt--Hey, you may be sick of it, but non-musicians still love it.

Vaughan Williams has some simple, pretty pieces.

Just a few thoughts.  Have fun!
Teresa

Hi there,

How about some of Schumann's Kinderszenen? Chopin preludes 4, 6 and 7?

Traumerei.   Fur Elise.  A Piano Arrangement of Waltz of the Flowers; or the Waltz from Tchaikovsky's Album for the Young.  Peer Gynt's "Morning Mood.  I.e. stuff that people recognize.
