DVDs or Books relating to the piano
on: September 21, 2003, 01:08:58 AM
I was wondering what books/DVDs people would recommend.

These are my recommendations:

DVDs
The Art of Piano (a must have)
Richter the Enigma

Books
The Great Pianists (Harold C. Schonberg)
Piano Notes (Charles Rosen)
Conversations with Arrau (Joseph Horowitz)

Ed

Books:

Men, Women and Pianos: Arthur Loesser (much of Schoenberg's book is culled from this)

Any of Dubal's books about Horowitz.

William Kapell:A Documentary Life History of the American Pianist: Tim Page

My Young Years, My Many Years: Arthur Rubinstein

Horowitz: Glenn Plaskin

Glenn Gould: A Life and Variations: Otto Friedrich

My Life and Music: Artur Schnabel

Dinu Lipatti: Dragos Tanasescu

Aspects of Cortot: Thomas Manshardt

Josef Hoffman: Eduard Seckler

My Life with Great Pianists: Franz Mohr (the famous tuner)

Piano Notes: The World of the Pianist: Charles Rosen

...and a ton of others I can't recall off the top of my head. :-/
