Recording Equipment

Im now selling a good PC that i dont need in my house so i can fund for some recording equipment. i was hoping that you guys could help me out in choosing some recording equipment, so that i can put it on a computer, from there on to CDs and forums etc.

my price range is within £400-500 which is rougly $800-1000 US. i need digital recording equipment and a good microphone. when i do the recordings i will probably try and get to a hall or something for good acoustics.

I liked Gaer's recording sound quality and im hoping you could help me out. unfortunately i dont know a lot about recording equipment brands and prices (i just study the physics ). Analogue would be too expensive for good quality and im hoping to be able to put the recordings onto a computer.

also, i am mainly a singer and thats what i will be studying at a conservatoire in a year or two, so if you can note that i would like to buy the equipment that would be good for singing aswell as piano (but mainly good quality for singing).
