child's play
on: December 14, 2005, 06:28:17 PM
at first glance, i thought my daughter was doing voodoo in her spare time.  but, she happily announced that her doll had pimples (due the noticable one's on her brother) as she continued poking the pins into the face of her doll.  (my sewing machine is near the computer, and yes, i must attend to my daughter before this poor doll has so much acne that it's irreversible).

she has now announced that she took her to the doctor - and the dolls face is getting better.

When I was tiny I gave Golliwog a haircut with the scissors and amputated his right arm in an "operation". He was still there, at the bottom of a cupboard and half-bald when I cleared out the house after Dad died. I didn't have the heart to throw him out so he's sitting on our dressing table, a jolly, lopsided reminder of childhood.

I too carried out an eye operation on my teddybear.

My mum managed to get another glass eye but not the same colour.

Looks rather sweet.

career voodoo dolls!  i didn't know such existed.  now you know what to do at the next piano competition (just kidding).

you all have funny stories.  i kept a diary on my first two children - but haven't seemed to find the time until now for the last one.  i hope i can remember the funny things because when i'm old - i might have to refer to the diaries to remember.  it's already been embarrassing to forget how old they are.

My mum remembers Golliwogs from her childhood. They've banned them now because of political correctness haven't they? Does anyone remember the marmalade that used to have a golliwog as its logo (i used to have a little badge of it) - they got rid of that too.

I think golliwogs were quite sweet, if a little scary.

teddybears just didn't cut it for me so i opted for SPIDERS. I used to think they were "crabs" and i loved the idea of that. i'd pluck them out of the sandpit and proudly hold them in my hands as my own "crabs"/spiders, i'd then take my new friends and place them on my bed. this all stopped as soon as i drew the correlation between the millions of bites i had on my body and my little friends(that took about 6 months, i think i knew earlier but it was worth it).
i really loved them, their shapes and forms are so beautiful, i've always had an obssession with wildlife and nature, but god that was one of the many stupid things i've done in my life.
